Open Question: someone please help, im scared... and i dont know what to do about school.?

well, i go to kentucky schools. and well, my dad passed away in august of last year when school started, and i quit going to school because it bothered me to much and i told the school i was getting on homeschool and my mom didnt know about it.. but today she got a letter saying i needed to send in my homeschool papers... and i dont know what to do.. should she put me on homeschool or just go sign me out of school before its to late and i get in trouble..
